PathWays PA was founded in 1978 as the Women’s Association for Women’s Alternatives. It served as one of Pennsylvania’s first residential programs to keep low-income, vulnerable women together with their children and has grown to become one of the Greater Philadelphia Region’s foremost providers of residential and community-based services for women, children and families. Each year over 6,000 women, children and families benefit from our full complement of social services; job training and employment assistance; as well as outreach and residential programs as they move along the path to self-sufficiency.

With offices throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and advocacy initiatives on behalf of low-wage workers statewide, PathWays PA provides programs committed to the development of client self-sufficiency which leads to the fulfillment of our mission:

To help women, teens, children and families achieve economic independence and family well-being.

We're big fans of Ready, Willing and Able. "Ready, Willing & Able (RWA) ends homelessness, substance abuse, and criminal recidivism by providing paid transitional work, comprehensive support services, and clean, safe housing. Trainees complete the program free of drugs and alcohol, with full-time jobs in the private sector, and with their own apartments."

Peoples Help Institute, 1333 Cheltenham Avenue, Melrose Park, PA
The school provides job training and personal living skills training to the homeless (living in shelters) and also to residents of public housing. Students are also certified in their fields and placed in positions with employers in their fields. The curriculum includes: nurses assistant, pharmacy technician, medical billing, culinary arts, environmental arts, auto body shop, and others. No student is charged a dime for tuition or other expenses. Those costs are born exclusively by contracts with government agencies, grants, and charitable contributions. The school also works with various city, state, and federal agencies to place homeless students into their own housing in addition to training them and placing them in good paying jobs.

    Penn State Dance MaraTHON
    www.thon.org

In 1973, a small group of dedicated Penn State students held our first Dance Marathon. That year, 34 dancers participated and raised $2,000. Since then, THON’s presence in the Penn State community has grown exponentially. THON now has 15,000 student volunteers, 700 dancers, and has raised more than $61 million, benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children’s Hospital.

THON is now a year-long effort that raises funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. With the support of students from all across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and THON Alumni all around the world, we continue to make great strides towards finding a cure for all childhood cancers!
