  • Why are current polititions so afraid of young up and coming Democrats ?

Maybe it's because they understand that those "young up and coming Democrats," like Nicholas DiDonato, shamelessly attempt at getting free campaign ads run in Questionland Philadelphia which will be laughingly deconstructed by anyone who has any degree of postmodern sensibilities, and thus they have no chance whatsoever in getting elected.

I didn't know this had become a political forum. I thought this was a help desk type forum.

Like Chris Rock said if you want gun control in America? You need to make bullets so expensive no one could afford them.

Observations of family destructive government corruption, negligence and incompetence.

I doubt that you will ever get what you have demanded. These lowlifes get into office and start running for their next office or re-election. The ones that rock the boat or do their job do not last long.

We have a mutual friend whose case has involved multiple countries and i know that the State Department deliberately lost his paperwork by sending it to the desk responsible for the wrong country and burying it until it was too late to do anything about it.

Families get torn apart. Brothers and sisters become estranged. And the government is just too busy going into debt. Rich is blessed to have your support. Often in such cases siblings and parents will either close ranks or stab the slighted parent in the back.

Your son and our mutual friend were unfortunate in being born white and born with a penis. Nobody cares about their rights.

  • Do you hold any observance or rememberance of the Kent State Shootings from May 4th, 1970?

It is a very important incident to remember. It reminds us that we must always keep a watchful and protective eye on the government and its power and abuses. We should always seek to limit government and empower people.

I see many common elements between then and today.

It seems the Corporatocracy of Barack Obama is once again pushing us in that terrible direction. From a promise of "Hope and Change" we have been betrayed with a goverment of Corporations, Unaccountable Bureaucrats and the Military joined as one overwhelming power to enslave the people with high taxes, dependency and intrusive government policies.

Wars that Obama promised to end have been escalated. The prosperity that he promised to all has been given to Wall St and the big banks but denied to the people. Like animals in a zoo we are supposed to be satisfied with dependency on government that feeds us a minimal daily stipend of unemployment comp. while destroying the business and entrepreneurial enterprises that would give us real prosperity. He has paid off Fannie/Freddie, banks, and Big Pharma with the money from our children's future earnings.

Progressives are unhappy, Libertarians are unhappy and the Conservatives are armed to the teeth and ready to have at it at the polling place or in the streets. One can only wonder where.

It is a sad and desperate time with so many of my friends laid off and losing their homes.

It reminds me very much of the Vietnam Era but worse because of all the foreclosures, layoffs and the future ramifications of the massive debt this government has incurred on our behalf.

Prosperity is no where in sight nor is peace.

I remember seeing the young student bending down over a body laying in the campus ground, crying in a moment of despair. I can not get that picture out of my head today. I wonder where is she? Is she a grandmother? Did she ever recover? Did she know the person lying there?

I thought the world was going to be messed up for a longtime and the college students were the target. I thought the teenagers (those from 15 to 19) were gonna get it! We were in trouble with the government and they were going to wipe us out. I stayed afraid for three days.

I remember a vivid feeling of hopelessness -- in the years after the asassinations of JFK, King and RFK, it seemed to my teenage self that our government was out of control and every month brought new and disturbing developments. Rioting in the cities, the Vietnam war escalation, the public revelation of the Mai Lai massacre, Nixon's election as president -- all contributed to a growing malaise.

The desperate feelings were crystallized by the Kent State shootings. CSNY's song "Ohio" captured the mood of many young people, and it still takes me right back to that time.

    Gotta get down to it
    Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago
What if you knew her and
found her dead on the ground?
How can you run when you know?

I believe the Kent State killings, and this song, too, helped to mobilize young people to oppose the Vietnam war in a way that they hadn't before. If young people on a college campus could be shot down for protesting the war, something was seriously wrong with our country and its policies.

Philly folks have a tendency to settle. Change is not something most accept with warm fuzzy feelings. which is why the same old stale folk are still holding a seat in most of our local government office . That also includes your judges and city council and board of education. We have become too complacent and only react when it directly affect us

There are not really many "fair shots" in politics. Especially at the local level. Who you know, how much money & pull they have. If you are an exceptionally good speaker or coordinator, like Cory Booker, maybe. But unusual to come up without help of the machine.

No, I don't hold an observance of any kind however I think it has great significance and should probably be observed.

My comments are not exclusive to the current administration, nor to a particular political party.
We were promised "Hope and Change" and last week the Obama administration awarded Halliburton a no-bid $500 million dollar contract. D or R, Its the same old thing.

    thanks for responding.
However, the question was, "Do you hold any observance or rememberance of the Kent State Shootings from May 4th, 1970? Does THE DATE have any significance?" Not, why do you hate the current administration.

I thought the line was "Should have been gone long ago"

but otherwise, I don't disagree with anything that you say. Thank you for sharing. I've been looking for the lyrics all day on-line.
