I'm sad to hear that the Film Society couldn't even move back to Spring if they wanted to. I know that films didn't play the Philly Festival in the Spring because of Tribeca, but what good is a great premiere in the Fall if it's the same day as a Phillies playoff game? With Cliff Lee back on Board the Phillies will be in the playoffs for at least the next 3 years, hopefully more!
But it's easy and cheap (Megabus for as low as $1) to get to Tribeca for my Spring film festival fix. And I've found people very generous there. If you are a the front of the Rush line people will come over to you and give you their extra tix.
I do have some other questions. I'll try to send you a private message.

I understand where you are coming from. Although I adore movies, I am an insatiable Phillies fan, and the timing of this fall's festival couldn't have been worse in this regard.
There was a deal struck when the Philadelphia Cinema Alliance broke off from the Philadelphia Film Society. It prevents the Film Society from running their festival in the spring for a number of years.
The calendar slotting of festivals is a very complicated affair. In the spring, a Philadelphia festival has to compete with TriBeCa; in the fall, there isn't a large festival nearby that grabs all the premieres.
Please feel free to contact me if you have other questions regarding the festival. If you enjoy art films, I lead a weekly film discussion group on Thirsdays at the Ethical Society on Rittenhouse Square. Participants see films at their convenience, and meet on Thursdays to discuss them.
    Regards,
    Jennifer
