There is such a place, and it is in Manayunk!
Philadelphia Woodworks Members Workshop is a membership based woodshop that also is going to be offering classes this spring. The facility also has a lumberyard and retail store on site. The shop is opening March 1, 2012.

The folks there are really nice and happy to tell you all about the shop and answer any questions. They also give tours- they welcome anyone to come check out the space and are interested to hear about your experience or curiosity about woodworking.

Definitely worth checking out, whether you are a beginner or experienced woodworker. The class list seems like anyone can do it- introductory stuff and fun projects, and also some really advanced stuff. They're online at www.philadelphiawoodworks.com , all the contact info is there. I would absolutely recommend checking it out, web and in person. It will make you want to build things!
